Heirloom Tomato and O Meyer Lemon Caprese Salad


3 – 4 medium thick sliced heirloom tomatoes
(Cherokee Purple are our favorite)
10 – 12 thick slices of fresh mozzarella di buffala
6 – 10 leaves fresh basil, cut into thin strips (chiffonade)
¼ cup O Meyer Lemon Olive Oil
1 tbsp. O California Balsamic Vinegar (drizzle to taste)
1 tsp. Fleur Del Sel or course pink salt
1 tsp. fresh cracked pepper (to taste)
1 flat bistro serving plate

HeirloomtomatoThis salad starts simple and you can build in as many ingredients as you like.  The simplicity focuses on the quality of the component ingredients.  Less is more in this delicate yet complex flavorful summer classic.  Food & Wine magazine said the simpler the better.

From simple to five ingredients – this salad yields great flavors in less than five minutes.

Option A: Just drizzle O Meyer Lemon over fresh sliced heirloom tomatoes and add kosher salt and fresh pepper.  That’s it!

Option B: The classic caprese salad sings with O Meyer Lemon olive oil.  On a large platter arrange alternate slices of tomatoes & mozzarella.  Drizzle with plenty of Meyer Lemon & O CA Balsamic.  Add salt & Pepper to taste.  Plenty of fleur de sel sets off all the flavors – don’t be shy!  Sprinkle basil leaf on top and serve with a good hearty bread for dipping.
